Welcome to the
STRATEGIC FORUM FOR CONSTRUCTION

In September 2002 the industry report Accelerating Change PDF was launched. This was a significant event for the construction industry as Accelerating Change set an improvement agenda for everyone involved with the industry. Importantly, it was compiled by representatives from across industry, government and the unions working together with the then chairman of the Strategic Forum, Sir John Egan.

Accelerating Change established a vision for the industry:

Our Vision is for the UK Construction industry to realise maximum value for all clients, end users and stakeholders and exceed their expectations through the consistent delivery of world class products.

The vision is being taken forward by the Strategic Forum for Construction (SFfC), a cross industry/government body currently being chaired by Mike Davies and hosted by the Construction Products Association

The Strategic Forum’s focus

The four key areas that the Strategic Forum for Construction (SFfC) is focusing on are:

  • Client engagement
  • Integrating teams and supply chains
  • People issues
  • Enhancing the value of the product

Six headline targets have been developed to address the key areas of focus. The six headline targets were distilled from the recommendations made in Accelerating Change
SFfC Headline targets

The principal role of the SFfC is to coordinate, monitor, measure and report on progress under the headline targets. Where it is felt that sufficient progress is not being made under a particular target new initiatives are being considered.

The SFfC does not act as an operational body. Its strategy is being implemented via Constructing Excellence, ConstructionSkills, the Construction Umbrella Bodies, National Platform and other implementation bodies together with the wider stakeholders in the construction industry where appropriate.

The Strategic Forum maintains close relations with all relevant government departments.  BERR acts as an observer at main meetings and other departments are consulted in line will the strategic issues being tackled by the Forum.
