Health and Safety Task Group

The Health and Safety Task Group was set up by the Strategic Forum to ensure that promises made at the Health and Safety Summit held in February 2004 are followed through. Members from across industry and government have pledged to make Health and Safety a primary commitment in three ways;

  • by personal example
  • by driving health and safety in their own organisation
  • by doing the same in the industry bodies they represent

The Forum continues to highlight in partnership with its member organisations and HSE the importance of the Strategic Forum ‘Respect for People’ Code of Practice, which may also be found on this website.

Integration Task Group

The group was reformed in 2007 with Martin Nielsen, Commercial Director at Scott Wilson as Chair.
The Group's purpose is to investigate and recommend on:

  1. The definition of integration
  2. The business case for integration, including identifying case studies where appropriate
  3. How the business case can be effectively promoted An initial report was produced at the end of 2007 and is available to dowload PDF

The group has now developed an action plan to overcome the obstacles highlighted in the report.

2012 Task Group

The Strategic Forum for Construction has established an 2012 Task Group to act as a focal point for liaison between the industry, the Government and London 2012 Olympic authorities (the ODA and LOCOG) to help ensure the successful delivery of the London Olympic facilities and infrastructure. The formation of the Task Group was announced to Parliament by the Minister for Construction, the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP, on 23 July 2005 and he has encouraged the Forum to move quickly in setting up the Task Group to ' scope industry needs, agree aspirations and manage expectations ' . The Group aims to establish a single over-arching strategic group to focus on ensuring the early adoption of best practice across Olympic projects to apply across the whole spectrum of activity, identify crucial issues influencing the effective delivery of the 2012 Olympics and to act as a ' collective conscience ' for the industry as a key stakeholder in the UK commitment to achieving the best possible Olympic Games in 2012.

The Forum has encapsulated these intentions within the “2012 Olympic Construction Commitments”, a concise document outlining the key areas critical to the successful delivery of the 2012 Olympic Games in the form of a Code.  The document will identify key areas that relate to the performance and behaviour of the industry and the responsibilities of the Client.

The Sustainable Construction Task Group

Previously known as the Sustainability Forum, this Task Group has been given a revised remit to focus more strategically on the issues affecting the construction industry. The role of the Task Group will be to provide strategic advice on sustainable construction to Government and members of the Strategic Forum. Initially, it will work with the BERR Team to finalise the Strategy for Sustainable Construction and will then focus on providing the necessary recommendations to help meet the targets set out for industry.
